Welcome to Mrs Howell's Year 4 Class
WOW Day Summer 2
On Monday 4th June, Year 4 used clay to make a caveman scene. We used grass, fabric, tissue paper, cotton wool, stones, twigs and leaves.
Each team had to make a caveman, a home, spears, tools and a fire pit.
In the afternoon, we made coil pots from clay. We looked at some pictures of stone age pots to help with our designs.
Wow Summer 1
On Tuesday 10th April, we had our WOW day linked to our topic ‘Would you rather work in the mill or go to school?’
During the day, we each designed, planned and constructed – using our sewing skills – a fabric tile showing an image of an
important building from Belper’s heritage. We had a fabulous time!
On Monday 19th March, Year 4 walked to the North Mill.
As part of our day, we had a tour from the volunteers from Belper Mill who explained all about how the Strutt family had changed Belper.
We had a fantastic day and learnt so much from the wonderful team at the mill.
Spring 2 WOW Day
To launch our new topic ‘Would you prefer to work in the mill or go to school?’ we worked in teams to make the main parts of Belper. We used all sorts of different materials. During the afternoon, we meet up with Year 3 in the hall and finished putting all the parts together. It looks amazing!
We had a fabulous time during maths week! We made maths games for Year 1 who came to test them with us on Friday afternoon, created maths art and solve some maths investigations. Our maths trail was a great success despite the terrible weather! A huge thank you to everyone who came and joined in.
Wow Spring 1
On Wednesday 4th January, we had our WOW day to launch our new topic ‘What were the awesome achievements of the Ancient Egyptians?’ During the day, we made paper mache death masks, painted scarab beetles on pebbles, constructed pyramids and wrote our names in hieroglyphics.
In the afternoon, we took part in a team building activity where we built pyramids using Lego. We had a fabulous time!
Our Body Museum
As our end product for our topic, Year 3 and 4 worked together to make a body museum in the Year 3 classroom. During the week, the children had been cooking different treats for the parents to enjoy whilst they looked around the museum. Year 3 and 4 worked in teams to produce amazing displays of information about the different parts of the body. We had lots of parents come to visit our museum. Well done!
